Code Rush follows the people of Netscape Communications during an intense period in 1998, when it was all but certain that Microsoft had already won control of the Internet user's desktop. When all hope seems fading, a group of dedicated developers work their hardest to push out a very special release.
Code Rush is a 1998 documentary following the lives of a group of Netscape engineers in Silicon Valley. It was shot during a time of flagging company fortunes, the initial release of the Mozilla code as an open source project, and the friction of an impending AOL-Netscape merger. The documentary depicts Netscape programmers forgoing their normal lives and families in an attempt to save the company from ruin.
Code Rush, produced in 2000 and broadcast on PBS, is an inside look at living and working in Silicon Valley at the height of the dot-com era. The film follows a group of Netscape engineers as they pursue at that time a revolutionary venture to save their company - giving away the software recipe for Netscape's browser in exchange for integrating improvements created by outside software developers. The copyright to the film is now available under CC vers. 3 for interested viewers to download and use.
